Your Silent Face

Spacetime, Fine-tuned

After going back into the image within this painting many, many times, I finally arrived at a point where I was satisfied with the clothes/pose, and thought I was satisfied with the face (albeit masked). But the face wasn’t working for me. It was close, but if I was being honest with myself, it didn’t give me joy. It just wasn’t quite right, for me. There were a couple of aspects about it that I did not like. But unfortunately, I had gone into it so many times that I was beginning to stress the paper more than I wanted to. I began to worry about ruining the surface of the paper.

A couple of friends gave me some good feedback—the final piece of advice being, Get yourself a can of Coke and chill.

I literally went across the street and bought a case of Coca-Cola. It was late afternoon. I wanted to go back into the painting, but I was too high strung. I knew that I would ruin it.

Today, I took it out into the driveway, where there was plenty of sunlight. Then I went back into the image and gently worked on it. Photos of the image can help you figure out just what exactly is the problem, so I took a lot of photos, and slowly, I realized what I needed to do.

I feel a lot better about this painting, now.
